Yesterday, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji Aje Ogunguniso 1, paid his first official visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi in his palace. The visit was the first in 17 years between the Ibadan monarch and his counterpart in Oyo.
The last visit of a sitting Olubadan to Alaafin was during the reign of Oba Yinusa Bankole Ogundipe Arapasowu 1 in 1999. Oba Adetunji explained that the purpose of his visit was to thank Alaafin for his presence at his coronation on Friday March 4, 2016.
He also disclosed that the visit was to strengthen the cord of unity that binds the two ancient cities together and to promote unity among the Yoruba traditional rulers. While responding, Oba Adeyemi said he had no problem with the Olubadan describing their relationship as being cordial.
