The body of a 300-Level student of Electrical and Electronics of the Federal University of Petroleum, Warri, Delta State, David Kalu, has been found floating in a lagoon in the state.
The police have, however, arrested a Hostel Manager at the university, William Odiete, in connection with his death.
The police also arrested two students, Tega Waritoma and Abubakar Ogbebor, for allegedly participating in Kalu’s murder. The victim, whose body was dumped in the lagoon near the university, had reportedly escaped being killed on two occasions.
Prior to his death, it was learnt, the victim allegedly had a quarrel with his roommate, Kalu Joseph, but the matter was reported to the hostel manager. Sources said the manager later led Waritoma and Ogbebor to Kalu's room, forced their way in, dragged him out and beat him.
He, however, later managed to escape. Kalu also escaped being lynched when another attempt was made on his life by the same people, by scaling the fence of the hostel.
Confirming Kalu’s murder, the state Commissioner of Police, Zanna Ibrahim, said “he (the victim) managed to escape from the scene but his corpse was later found in nearby lagoon." The commissioner said since the suspects broke into his room and mobbed him on two occasions, they were the prime suspects in the murder.
