Father Stabbed 12-Year-Old Son to Death for not Studying Hard

A 48-year-old Japanese man, Kengo Satake has reportedly stabbed his 12-year-old son to death for not studying enough for an upcoming examination. The boy, Ryota died in a hospital due to loss of blood from the stab wounds.

The father later confessed to the police, saying it was a mistake.

Satake said he wanted his son to pass an entrance examination for the same private junior high school in Nagoya from which he himself had graduated.

The boy’s mother was at work when the incident occurred, the Asahi Shimbun Daily reported.

This is not the first time, a parent in Japan has gone to extreme lengths due to matters of education. What is called Japan’s “exam war” to get into prestigious schools has become increasingly intense as more and more parents push their children to take entrance examinations for reputable junior high schools.
