Anil Kapoor's beautiful actress daughter, Sonam Kapoor, who is set to star in a chick flick, Veere Di Shaadi, feels that films centred around women can also work equally well in India, since male friends have made their way to the big screen several times, and have been successful, Hindustan Times reports.
“Why can’t two or more mainstream actresses work together? If we can have films such as Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), then why can’t we have a film like this (her next, which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan)?” asks the actor, adding that such films could be a “commentary on the direction our industry is headed in”.
Calling it an “ensemble piece”, Sonam admits that after doing a lead role in a film like Neerja, this was a natural progression for her, as she believes “content is king”. “I always want to do things that help me grow as a person and as an actor,” says the fashionable star.
For the first time, Sonam will team up with Kareena Kapoor Khan in a film. “I can’t explain what an honour it is to work with her. Bebo, Saif (Ali Khan; actor) and Lolo (Karisma Kapoor; Kareena’s sister) are like family to us. We have been close friends, and our respective families have also been close,” she says, adding that Kareena is “possibly the most talented actress to come out of Bollywood”. “There is only kindness and goodness in her and a lot of people don’t see it because she has such a fun attitude. But I love that about her, and I really look up to her,” she says.
