Director R Balki, whose upcoming film Ki & Ka is all set for a release, has Arjun Kapoor in the role of a homemaker and Kareena Kapoor Khan, who plays his wife in the film, holds a successful position in a corporate job.
The director says that he wanted Arjun for the role as he has a contrast image to the role he plays. “He is the perfect example of a huge hunk, massive macho guy but I felt he was perfect for the soft homemaker in the film. I needed an ultra-masculine guy for the film and the girl had to be feminine as it is a love story between two people in life.
It was not about capturing anybody’s life,” he said.
Elaborating more, he added, “I always felt Arjun is gentle as an actor and he does not raise his voice despite the fact that he’s so masculine. He is a Johnson’s baby.” Balki says that Kareena is the happiest human being he has known in life. “She does not have any problems in life. She is magical and modern and pitches in correctly. She does not talk about cinema but on screen she is a simple person and no-faff person which is rare in the industry,” Balki averred.
The director feels that Kareena is a natural actress. “I have seen her in films like Jab We Met, Ra One and Asoka and felt she was electric with Shah Rukh Khan. She is a volcano of talent and does it naturally. She is the most evolved and balanced human being I have seen. Both Kareena and Arjun look good together,” he added.
The story line of Ki & Ka being so unique, the director says that it came to him because of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. Speaking about it, he said, “After Shamitabh they said don’t sit for long, do something. I needed some motivation and this idea came to me. I spoke to my actors and we were ready to start. I always wanted to do different kinds of films. I can make Rs 20 to 30 crore a year but there has to be some motivation.”
About the power couple, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, he added, “He plays an important role in the film and it comes in the centre of the film. He’s the greatest actor and I have been lucky to have him with me. I like to write something different and he’s agreed to do films with me.”
