Lagos 'Danfo' Driver Crushes Pregnant Police Officer to Death

Police operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos, have commenced investigation into the death of a female corporal who was hit by a reckless motorist in Lagos earlier this month.

The deceased identified as Corporal Evelyn Ele-Amuta, was two- month pregnant at the time of her death.

The police corporal was reportedly knocked down on February 6 by a driver she had arrested for flouting traffic laws.

The Nation gathered that her team members rushed her to a nearby hospital, but doctors at the hospital refused to attend to her due to lack of police report.

Until her death, Amuta, a mother of one, was attached to the X-Squad of the Lagos State Police Command.

It was learnt that despite entreaties by officer In charge of X-Squad, who witnessed the incident, the unnamed hospital still refused to attend to the emergency case unless there was a police report.

According to a police source, the deceased was buried two weeks ago in Kogi State.

The source said the late Amuta was company of the OC X-Squad and were heading to Ikeja from Ikorodu where they went for investigation.

“They saw a commercial vehicle driving against traffic. They succeeded in arresting the driver, but as they were about to order him out of his vehicle, he suddenly reversed, hit Evelyn and escaped.

“The OC X-Squad quickly called for help. He took her to the nearest hospital. The doctors demanded for police report before they could treat her.

“This was despite the fact that the OC introduced himself as a police officer. Evelyn died shortly after,” the source said.
